Home Remedies to Whiten Hands and Legs


Did you know a substance called melanin is responsible for complexion of the skin. If you have higher melanin content, your skin becomes darker and vice versa. To decrease the melanin levels go for this DIYs, which are really easy to do. Continuous usage of these on your hands and legs will result in fairer skin. These are all natural DIYs and there are no side effects; and are straight out of your kitchen. Do give them a try!

1. Tomatoes

They have natural whitening and bleaching properties. They also have natural acidic composition that balances the pH of the skin to prevent the excessive oil and makes it look bright. So, tomatoes are ideal choice to use on your skin for whitening.

Ingredients: Tomato juice and Buttermilk in the ratio of 1:2.

Method: mix them together and apply on your hands and legs with a cotton ball. Leave this on for about 40 minutes. Rinse it thoroughly. This mixture is especially helpful for sunburned or tanned skin. Apply this mixture once a week in summers to see the desired effects.


Yogurt also has bleaching properties as it contains lactic acid. We all have made a face pack using yogurt at least once in our life. Yogurt also brightens the skin and helps to make it shades lighter with continuous usage.

Ingredients: just plain yogurt.

Method: make it a habit of rubbing yogurt on hands and legs before going for a bath. Leave it on for 5-7 minutes and then wash with lukewarm water. Do this for at least a month. You will notice a considerable difference in the color of your skin. To make it more effective you can also add few drops of lemon juice too.

3. Lemon

Lemons have high amount of vitamin C and antioxidants, which encourages new cell growth that results in brighter and lighter skin tone.

Ingredients: lemon juice and cucumber juice in equal quantities, a pinch of turmeric.

Method: make a paste by mixing the above ingredients and apply this paste on hands and legs. Leave this on for 20 minutes and wash it off. Repeat this process daily for 15 days and see the difference in the skin tone.

4. Gram flour

Gram flour is used in most of the face packs that we make at home because of it’s versatility. It gives the skin that desired glow, brightness and lighter complexion with continuous usage.

Ingredients: 4 tbsp gram flour, rose water and water.

Method: mix them together to make a fine paste and apply on hands and legs. Wash this off with water when it’s dried. Repeat this process at least twice a week.

5. Aloe vera gel

Aloe vera has anthraquinone, which is known to lighten the skin color by removing the top layer of the skin. It has also many healing properties and helps to calm irritated skin.

Ingredients: aloe vera gel.

Method: just take aloe vera gel and slather it on your hands and feet. Keep it on for as long as you like and wash it off. This is the easiest one and it really works too.

6. Oranges

They have vitamin C and amazing bleaching properties. These things make oranges ideal for use in whitening packs and masks. Oranges are great for achieving a healthier looking supple skin.

Ingredients: dried orange peel and raw milk.

Method: grind the orange peel and mix raw milk to make a paste. Apply this mixture on hands and feet. Wash this off after 20 minutes. This is an excellent combination for discolored and uneven hands and feet.

7. Potatoes

Potato juice is especially beneficial for reducing dark pigmentation on hands and legs; and you can always find potatoes lying around in your pantry if not anything else!

Ingredients: thick slices of potato.

Method: because of constant rubbing, our inner thighs and knees are darker in color, which really looks bad if we are wearing short dresses. Just cut potato slices and rub them on the darker areas like inner thighs, knees or elbows. Let the moisture sit for about 10 minute and rinse off with warm water.

8. Turmeric

Use of turmeric in whitening masks greatly improves the overall look of the skin. It helps to maintain an even skin tone and also brightens it.

Ingredients: turmeric and olive oil.

Method: make a thin paste from these two wonder ingredients. Apply on your hands and feet in thin layer. Leave this for 10 minutes and wash it off. Use this paste at least 2-3 times a week to see the difference.
